Introducing the Infrastructure and Projects Authority

The IPA is the government’s centre of expertise for infrastructure and major projects. We sit at the heart of government, reporting to the Cabinet Office and HM Treasury.

Our core teams include experts in all elements of project delivery – infrastructure, IT, defence transformation, project finance and project profession capability – who work with a range of government departments and industry. We support the successful delivery of all types of major projects with a particular focus on the Government Major Project Portfolio (GMPP), providing support and assurance to ensure the government’s biggest projects are delivered as efficiently and cost-effectively as possible.

“The UK government delivers some of the most complex and innovative projects in the world and it is critical that we have the right leadership in place to deliver these projects to a world-class standard.

Senior Project Leaders are integral to successful project delivery and I have seen in my own 39-year career that there is a direct correlation between strong leadership and better outcomes.

By joining the government as a project leader you will experience the opportunity to work on world-class projects, receive world-class training and ultimately deliver outcomes that will change people’s daily lives right across the country.”

IPA and the Project Delivery Profession

Projects are delivered by people, so building professional capability and capacity across government departments and their project delivery professionals is a high priority for the IPA. We aim to build high-performing, professional, flexible and diverse teams to deliver world-class projects, now and in the future.

With this mandate, the IPA aims to set standards of success that equal those in the best companies and governments across the world. Find out more about our mandate here.
